I will start with TA because I was a one for a year.  First of all lets talk about the job role. A TA is responsible for doing all the practicals, marking the reports, invigilating exams and conducting tutorials. It can be undergraduate or sometimes postgraduate. You get paid around 40000 LKR in many government and private universities. Usually after completing the undergraduate degree you can apply for the position in the department you studied and based on the qualifications and the number of vacancies you will be offered a position.                                                If you have been reading this blog for some time then you know that I am a science graduate and as an undergraduate I did two research projects; a year long final year undergraduate research project and a mini research project. So I thought of giving an insight about how to conduct a research and some websites/tools that might be helpful to anyone who is looking forward to conduct a research.

If you are following this blog then you already know that I am a senior year student specializing in Nuclear Medicine. For those who do not know what Nuclear medicine is, I will give a brief introduction. Nuclear medicine is a branch of medicine where we use radioactive materials to diagnose and treat certain diseases. I have been to both government and private hospitals and today I am going to share my experiences and I am not biased at all.

Since A/L exams are going to start within next few days I think, I can see a lot of viewers for my A/L posts. So I thought of giving you a bit of encouragement. I am a student who did A/Ls from physical science stream (Combined mathematics, Chemistry and Physics) and currently a 3rd year undergraduate studying nuclear medicine at University of Colombo, Faculty of Science. People think (even I thought) science faculties are boring and teachers are the only products of a science faculty.. Well that's wrong.. You can be a teacher if you want to, but that happens rarely here. None of the seniors I know ended up as teachers. The product of a science faculty is a scientist. Most of the people go abroad for higher studies (usually they get scholarships) and others join research groups. That doesn't mean you can't do a job or earn a good salary. Last time I did a whole article on Biochemistry,but now I'm running out of time. Therefore I will just mention good videos and articles I have gone through so far for EM theory. Most people think that biochemistry is so hard just by looking at those big scientific words. Even I used to think that it's a really big deal to learn biochem. Actually it's not. It's the most fascinating subject I've ever learned. Biochem is biology + chemistry. And it gave me answers to some of the questions I always had and was not satisfied with the answers given by teachers in my freshman year. Why starch gives a blue colour and also a brown colour with iodine? Many people will talk about complexes etc, but the real reason is something else. Learning biochem is so difficult when you look at it like it's the most difficult thing ever. Just relax and start from the 1st page. When there are terms you don't know surf net and you'll see there are so many videos and articles. Guess what, sometimes they contain some cheats too.  If you are a frequent reader of this blog, then you may know that I went to Uni last year..  I went through lots of things and I mentioned some of them previously.. Through my experiences I though of giving some tips to survive the university.. So that you won't do the mistakes I did. I can still remember the day I entered the university..fully determined to learn and win.. However coz of an unfortunate situation my first semester was wasted.. and had to work hard to catch those things up in the second semester. However here are some tips to win the university and make your dreams come true.

If you are a student studying organic chemistry, then you must know stereo-chemistry. For many people it's very difficult to understand. Usually what they expect you to do is to recognize two given molecules, whether they are the same molecule, enantiomers or diastereomers. There is a short cut..

Hmmm.... These days people in my university are so busy coz the end semester exams are in next month.. They are looking for notebooks, papers and so many other stuff.. It seems to me that most people are stressed. There might be some lucky individuals who may get stimulated coz of stress, but most people are worse than how they normally are, when stressed. So what I think is that getting tensed is not what is required at the moment.
