How to finish papers quickly...

Todays topic was requested by one of my readers and I hope this will help many of you guys and thank you for suggesting this topic! As I mentioned before in one of my previous posts, I used to finish exams very quickly and in A/Ls chemistry paper I even did an extra essay question (both of physical chemistry questions + organic chemistry). Now how do I do that? It's through practice. There are certain skills that you need to have to be able to finish quickly and give correct answers quickly at the same time.  In an exam people waste most of their valuable time by thinking which questions to do. By the time you figure out which questions you are gonna answer, you have already spent more than 10 minutes. First thing is to avoid that. Especially in exams like A/Ls you know what are the essays that are going to be there. So pick your question...

How to stop procrastination- A/L edition

Like I always say we all procrastinate. Nobody can be productive 24x7 throughout their entire life time right? For Advanced Level student the consequences of procrastination is life changing as the exam will most probably decide the path of your life for a next couple of decades. (I am not saying your entire life depends on this, but we don't need to look at our past and regret, do we?) So today let me tell you about how to minimize being lazy and get work done, 01. Remove all the distractions and focus on goals. I'm very serious. Do not get yourself into relationships... (I am not against those. You can have a one if you are good at not texting/ day dreaming 24x7 about that person. Most of us are not, so if you can't control yourself then it is better not to get into a relationship this soon.. The world is not gonna end y'all. There are so many nice guys out there.) Be independent. The way I say it is this. Imagine all your friends, relatives are all gone and there i...

How to choose an undergraduate degree...

Since I always post about A/Ls I thought about writing about the life after A/Ls. There are two paths to follow after A/Ls.. A job or pursuing higher education. Since I did an undergraduate degree I can only talk about that. If you decide to go for tertiary education instead of directly applying for a job with A/Ls, the next question arises. Where to go? Before that actually there is one more important thing people usually miss and of course later in life they regret. What kind of a job do you wish to have after bachelors? Will you stay in academia or want to join the industry? Your answer to that will help you in determining your university.

Why sleep is important?

In the famous study culture students are studying for 9-11 hours a day without sleep and most of us are proud to say that we sacrificed our sleep for studies. I have even seen many teachers advising students that studies are more important than sleep, but is it? In my life sleeping is the number one priority. I'm not even kidding. If I go to an exam without sleep my performance will be worse than a no study proper sleep situation. Sleep actually has a huge impact on how we perform and our levels of concentration. Lets dig in to find out how that works.

Five second rule and reverse counting

You want to get something done, but feels like you can't? Well this rule will make you do it whether your goal is to lose weight, to study more or to wake up early. The person behind this rule is Mel Robbins and in her book she define 5 second rule as " If you have an impulse to act on a goal, you must physically move within 5 seconds or your brain will kill the idea". I will explain how I follow that advice in my own way and you can adapt it to your requirement as well. In my case whenever I need to get something done I tell myself now its 6.05pm...I will wait till 6.15... I will wait 10 more minutes... And that 10 minutes never come. When I heard about the 5 second rule I was in bed trying to get up. So I decided to use it with reversed counting. Instead of saying 1,2,3,4,5 and get up I counted 5,4,3,2,1... and I suddenly jumped out of bed. Later I got to know it has a psychological explanation. When we start counting from 1 it can go up to infinity, but when we reverse...

Brain food- Food that boosts memory and concentration

As I always we are what we eat it is really really important to maintain our health as students. So today I am going to be talking about food that will aid you in studies. The nutrients found in these help to boost memory and concentration and try to add these to your diet more often. For those who are interested I will mention the research papers as well. 01. Berries Berries contain flavonoids that improves blood flow to the brain, improve communication between brain cells and helps brain cells to make new connections. (01-02) 02. Fish Fish containing Omega 3 improves the structure of neurons. A Japanese study done with 76 adults showed a correlation with fish intake and better memory performance and better brain health. (03) 03. Dark Chocolate Dark chocolate also contains flavonoids and as mentioned below it benefits us by improving neural pathways. Cocoa intake also reduces brain fatigue and improve the blood flow to the brain as well. (04) 04. Citrus Fruits Citrus fruits conta...

How to get work done...

At least once in our lives we have been in a place where we can't make ourselves get the work done. There are tons of things to do, you want to do, but you can't just make yourself start doing them. If this is you right now, then this is for you.

Tips for online classes

The new normal, covid 19 has forced us into move all our study sessions;schools, tuition classes and even university lectures into online form. This has its own advantages as well as disadvantages. In my opinion it has provided a platform for students who perform well, to ace the studies while for average or badly performing students to distract themselves more. Therefore I thought of giving you some tips to manage and balance your daily routine and studies more efficiently. Without further ado lets get started.

How to study for long hours...

When it comes to studying what actually matters is the quality of studying rather than the number of hours we spend cramming. However some of us have trouble concentrating for long durations. Todays post is about having a high quality study session with maximum concentration.

How to survive A/Ls in 3 months...

Today is the first of May and there are exactly three months until GCE A/L exams begin. I intend to help people who has realized this and started panicking and feeling lost, but not only A/L students but also any student with any upcoming exam can use these tips to ace your exam. I will first explain why most of us usually wait until the day before deadline to do stuff. It's explained by Parkinson's law which states that " Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion". What it means is, if we are given a week to finish a task we will finish it within the week and if we are given an year to finish the same task we will spend the whole year doing it. Well that's how usually us, lazy humans work. Now that you know what happened there is no time to regret about how we procrastinated on unnecessary things etc. Now it's time to damage control. I will not gurantee you will get 3As by following these. (It's possible depending on ...

Things I wish I knew when I did A/Ls...

Yesterday it was the new year in my country so, Happy new year everyone!!! I'm here today with the wisdom of people who did A/Ls. Last year I did a survey about A/Ls and 40 people from different universities participated. It's gonna be a long post but hope it will help you to excel your exam. Read till the end coz last question is the most important question and it contains things I wish I knew when I was doing A/Ls.

GCE A/L Q and A - 01

If you guys have anymore questions email (ruviperera780@gmail.com) me or DM me on instagram(ruviash). Keep in mind that there is nothing called stupid questions. So don't hesitate to ask me anything.

Time management for A/L students...

Hello everyone!! So in one of my previous A/L posts  one of my readers asked how I used to manage time for all the work that was piling up when I was doing A/Ls. So today I'm gonna share my experience and what I got wrong. (And thank you for asking that question btw. 😊) It will not be a fancy article with nice scientific words, but I will share you the wisdom I got during past few years and how I managed to survive A/Ls.

How I did A/Ls - Part 2

Last time I told you about how I prepared for the A.L examination.( How I did A/Ls- Part 1 ) So today I am telling you how I managed stress during the exam.

How I did A/Ls..

Well as per one of my readers request I decided to tell you how I did A/Ls. So before telling you that I think telling you the background story will be important for you to understand why I did certain things. So lets get started.. (It's gonna be a very long post)

Doppler Calculations made easy...

Since A/L examination is starting in few days I thought of writing a quick post about something related to A/Ls. I will be explaining Doppler Effect and how to do calculations using formulas easily. This was taught to me by my Physics teacher in school who also happened to be my class teacher. Literally she is the best Physics teacher I had in my life and I didn't even need tuition classes for Physics. (She insisted me on practicing more problems so I went to a Physics class where the teacher focused more on questions than theory.) But I learned all the theories and how to apply them from her. So today I'm gonna share with you one of her lessons. It will get you full marks on your Doppler effect question in paper.

Guess answers to MCQs like a pro !!!

In almost every exam we get multiple answer questions, but how many of us get 10 out of 10? Even though we know the content by heart, there are times that we might not be able to answer the question. In the grade 12 first term examination I didn't have enough time to answer for 9 mcqs. With the little time I had,if i was going to solve them, then I will only be solving only 2 or 3. So I just looked at the answers and then I got it.. It's not about the questions..the answers themselves guided me to the correct answer. In this method you don't even have to look at the question to get the correct answer. I have done this so many times and 90% times it worked. So lets see what is this magic ..

Why do we fall asleep when studying?

First semester is coming to an end and all are getting ready for the end semester exams. So I thought of something which will be useful for most of us.. Now all are studying and one of the most common problems we have is falling asleep while studying . Actually why do we fall asleep when we study? Sometime we wait in bed for hours till we fall asleep but when going to study, we fall asleep within minutes. So why is this happening? Here is the answer..
