What I learned in my 20's

I have spent more than half of the second decade of my life and one thing I learned was that the life changes rapidly after 20. Suddenly you get a lot of responsibilities on your shoulders and it may seem like everybody else have figured everything out and you are still the same old you. If you are feeling the same, this is for you.

How to lose weight!

I'm a person who doesn't judge people depending on how they look, but we all are not the same. Sometimes we have our own standards for our bodies and sometimes there are people who bully us into thinking that we look ugly. Whatever the case is, this is for people who are trying to lose some weight. I was struggling with weight for years.. I was called names and being compared to other people. I tried many different things, had cried myself to sleep and hated for being stuck in a very stubborn body. Today I am in the body I always wanted. The kind of body everybody dreams of (this feels like bragging, but hell yeah I earned it... So). So I thought of openly talking about it.

From Paris...

After a break of weeks I am writing again, but not from Sri Lanka, but from France. I was busy with document processing etc and settling down and today I am posting about all that. So as I mentioned in a previous post  I wanted to be a Nuclear Engineer and ended up doing Nuclear Medicine instead. And now finally after going around and around I am finally in the path to becoming a Nuclear Engineer. After trying different universities for different subjects I finally got accepted to Nuclear Engineering at a top 20 university. It was quite a struggle to get through rejections and finally finally get accepted to the university I never thought that would accept me... Life is not easy and it throws us twisted plots and curve balls at us, but in the end we get what we deserve. So do not ever give up. Sometimes waiting gives you the best results. I will stop for today and comeback with informative articles from now onwards. If any of you are interested in knowing anything related to...

How to be a teaching assistant/ research assistant?

So this is one of the questions many undergraduate students have and I get asked all the time. So today I thought of answering your question. How to be a TA or an RA. I will start with TA because I was a one for a year.  First of all lets talk about the job role. A TA is responsible for doing all the practicals, marking the reports, invigilating exams and conducting tutorials. It can be undergraduate or sometimes postgraduate. You get paid around 40000 LKR in many government and private universities. Usually after completing the undergraduate degree you can apply for the position in the department you studied and based on the qualifications and the number of vacancies you will be offered a position. In most of the departments the maximum duration is 1 year.  When it comes to RA positions it is not very straightforward as TA positions. Most of the time the RA posts are offere...

Life of a vegetarian

People become vegetarians for many reasons; ethics, religion, health issues, hormones in animals, environmental concerns and the list goes on. I first started being a vegetarian in 2014. Why? Because I lost the very first animal who loved me. His name was Dotty...  A pretty black and white fur ball.. It was a hit and run kinda thing. He was flattened in the middle of the road. He was a kitten and has never ever been to the road before. And the view of dead animals in roadsides is a pretty common thing. Why? Because people don't care. Hitting an animal and a human is not the same according to them. Losing him hit me really hard and it made me think of how the value of a life is relative... If we are not attached to the dead one, we don't feel a thing. But that doesn't mean we can go and kill someones loved ones. That made me feel horrible for eating all the animals for 19 years. And I became a vegetarian. After one year my health went downhill due to lack of proteins in my d...

The most difficult question I ever had to answer...

The most difficult question I ever had to answer was not in a question paper or a viva. Once in a while in most unexpected moments life throws us questions and lessons which makes us to think and be grateful for everything we have.

My Quarantine Routine...

I'm back again with a new post. I hope you all are safe in your houses in "quarantine". I know for some people it's so hard but at least it is better than spreading a disease or lying on an ICU bed. So guys stay home and be productive. We all say we don't have time to this and that but suddenly now we have all the time in the world to do whatever we want but to go outside. Today I'm gonna give you a glimpse of my life, how I spend my time in quarantine. BtwI am an insanely organized person. and planning is my hobby. 🙊I enjoy planning everything. So I spend the night planning the activities I will do the following day.

On her own ground...

Hello everyone, I hope you all are safe in quarantine during this hard time. First of all I wish you all good health, both mental and physical. To talk a bit of myself, I finally completed my degree in this February and I would like to thank everyone who helped me through out past few years. I was so busy finishing my undergraduate research which was nerve wrecking and hence could not write any new posts. So after a long break today I'm going to tell you about some wisdom I accidentally found while in quarantine. There is an island-wide curfew and I came to know that quarantine has no effect on my introvert life as I was always inside my room anyway.

Thank You !!!

Hello everyone, Last semester of my undergraduate life is starting on this Monday. So my life will be busy again with studies, clinical practice and my research. May be I will not be able to post often, but I will do my best. The purpose of this post is to thank everyone.😇

How I did A/Ls - Part 2

Last time I told you about how I prepared for the A.L examination.( How I did A/Ls- Part 1 ) So today I am telling you how I managed stress during the exam.

How I did A/Ls..

Well as per one of my readers request I decided to tell you how I did A/Ls. So before telling you that I think telling you the background story will be important for you to understand why I did certain things. So lets get started.. (It's gonna be a very long post)

My person - Meine Liebe

" He walked into my heart like he always belonged there, took down my walls and lit my soul on fire..." Well the people who knows me knows my person too.(He was my anonymous 08 back in 2016.) I'm not wrong if I tell you he is the living Sheldon Cooper. The arrogant theoretical physicist who hates mediocre lifestyles and stupidity. Me and my friends literally almost died laughing seeing the similarities between the them once we started watching the show. It's surprisingly and hilariously similar. Actually he's not the nerd people think he is. He plays guitar, can dance some dances which he made by himself (well my attempt to teach him waltz failed once he started stepping on my shoes.. maybe I'm a bad teacher.. who knows..) and he's fun to hang around with. So the reason I'm writing here today about him, is actually coz I miss him so badly. 🙈

Anybody can bake Pizza....

Admit it, we all love pizza. This Italy originated mouth watering food has touched almost everybody's heart at least once in their life time. The modern pizza was originally made in Naples and by today around 3 billions of pizzas are sold per year in United States.

April Bookworm..

" She reads books as one would breathe air, to fill up and live. " - Annie Dillard That's something you would say if you know me. Yeah I read. Alot. I don't honestly remember when I started reading.. But I can clearly remember Radiant way English book that I used to read in Nursery. I literally read everything which has letters printed/written in and my mom thought it's a good idea to get me the membership of local library. By the second grade I finished reading all the books in the library and wanted more. So mom bought me books.. It was a habit of us to visit the local bookstore at least once a month. Soon books started piling up but was that enough for me? NO... I wanted more.. and more books. As a result of collecting books for about 18 years I have a huge library in my house and also proud to say that I won the 4th place of an all island library competition when I was in seventh grade.

Why we should have expiry dates...

I like the idea of dying by a cancer or some illness where they label me with an expiry date. Nobody who's in their right mind would say that right? But I keep saying that again and again, Why? Because then nobody will have to live with regrets.. Things they could have done for me, fights they could have avoided so that they will not resent themselves after I die. A cancer or any disease which has an ability to kill a person hurts. It definitely hurts I know, but I don't want to die suddenly leaving people who loves me in misery. When you have an expiry date just like a jar of candy on your shelf you get to use the most of it wisely and carefully. Any death hurts.. I have seen more than 200 deaths. Death is  so painful and takes time.

Youth And Consequences...

Finished watching Jason Ubaldi's " Youth and Consequences"   web drama starring Anna Akana    a little while ago, and thought of converting my thoughts into words and publish a new post. Even though my life is not similar to Farrahs my life is full of excitement. Everyday something interesting happens and as I mentioned in a previous post if I were to write a book about my life no one will believe that those things actually happened to a person within 23 years. So my life was never a boring one, and never will be.. hahaha

Reminiscence; A walk down the memory lane

First of all I'm so sorry about not posting anything for a while (More than 3 months...). I was super busy and 2018 started with lot of excitement (yup, it's still exciting) and since this is the first post for this year I thought of starting things with a recap. Sounds good ha? So lets get started.

Wisdom of two years in university...

If you are a follower of this blog you already know that I'm currently an undergraduate in the Faculty of science of University of Colombo.. So I'll be starting my junior year in the university in next month and I wanted to share things I wish I knew in my freshman and sophomore years. I can only show you the way and it's your decision to make whether you are going to follow it or not. I'm writing this based on my experiences and things I saw and heard during those 2 years and I hope you won't do the mistakes we did and wish you good luck in following your dreams.. :)

Wisdom through humanity- UN Volunteers UOC...

Well I joined to CUV FOS..It's a new concept and a sort of an organization ...not per faculty..but a one organization for the whole campus..it's kinda cool isn't it? With 100 cool people from 1st and 2nd years of all the faculties including UCSC,IIM and Sripalee. A one big family who are willing to make others feel happy and be happy through that.United Nations and the student counselors will be guiding of course..Basically knowledge based volunteerism is the main idea behind this, but we will be helping others in anywhere where they need a helping hand.. I'm kind of excited since this is a once in a life time opportunity to join United Nations and work with them..(I always dreamed of something like this. It's like finally I have started feeling like I have grown up and big enough to serve community from what I have learned so far) So stay in touch and I'll keep you posted.... :)

The singing pond..

So after a long break I'm posting something new today.. it's something i wanted to tell you from the beginning of the new semester..but i'm lucky that i had to postpone it coz today i got tons of ideas to add to this post. I just finished watching a movie..that's what gave me something new to think about. So this movie was quite a famous one in sri lanka but i couldn't watch it. It's name is "ho gana pokuna" (the singing pond). So for the people who don't know the story i'll give a brief idea.  A new teacher comes to a school which is situated in an extremely rural area in sri lanka. There are only 18 children in this school (usually schools in sri lanka have thousands per school. For an example there were about 5000 students in my school)Since there village is in the up country they have never seen the sea. So this movie is all about their trip to see the sea. What i realized from this movie is that i'm such a lucky person...
