After the age of dinosaurs ,the Borneo island was covered with water.All of the Malay archipelago was totally submerged 30 million years ago.Then the island began to push its way above water 15 millions of years ago.Sedimentary deposits slowly rose to form mountains,which were penetrated between one and two millions of years ago by the granite intrusion that forms mountain Kinabalu ,the highest peak in crocker range.It's the highest mountain in both Malay archipelago and Malaysia and it's summit is 4096m above sea level.
