How to stop procrastination- A/L edition

Timetable, Paper, Drawing Pad, Colored Pencils

Like I always say we all procrastinate. Nobody can be productive 24x7 throughout their entire life time right? For Advanced Level student the consequences of procrastination is life changing as the exam will most probably decide the path of your life for a next couple of decades. (I am not saying your entire life depends on this, but we don't need to look at our past and regret, do we?) So today let me tell you about how to minimize being lazy and get work done,

01. Remove all the distractions and focus on goals.

I'm very serious. Do not get yourself into relationships... (I am not against those. You can have a one if you are good at not texting/ day dreaming 24x7 about that person. Most of us are not, so if you can't control yourself then it is better not to get into a relationship this soon.. The world is not gonna end y'all. There are so many nice guys out there.) Be independent. The way I say it is this. Imagine all your friends, relatives are all gone and there is nobody. Still you should have a way of survival. That is what I call stability. Imagine a future for yourself and make that your goal. Write them down and keep is somewhere you can see. If you are into arts and crafts you can even make a vision board. Or you can simply use canva to make wallpapers for your laptop and mobile phone.

02. Make things organised.

Use planners or journals to keep track of your progress and upcoming assignments, exams etc. When the work you did is visible on a sheet of paper it motivates you to continue doing more. I had two separate books; a to do list book and a things I did book. It was so satisfying to see topics getting crossed out in one book and the other one keeps getting filled.

03. Form study groups.

Have a bunch of friends to discuss the things that are difficult for you and teach other people what you know. Trust me to master any subject teaching someone is the best way. Then only you will understand how much of that you have actually understood.

04. Be competitive.

I use an app called Yeolpumta. It tracks the time we spent on a subject and also it has a feature that doesn't let us use the phone while we are studying. At the end of the day it has a ranking system which ranks all the users in a given country and that motivates my competitive spirit to work more.

05. If you are really really feeling lazy try some study with me videos on YouTube.

Sometimes it's isolation that makes us feel like not working and watching someone study can actually motivate you. With that being said, I recently started a YouTube channel and I post study videos and vlogs about my life there as well. If you like to check that out click HERE.

06. Change the routine

Sometimes when your body is not healthy mind becomes unhealthy too. So if possible workout, at least go out and have some fresh air once in a while. Drink plenty of water and avoid unnecessary amounts of sugar and carbs. Try to eat healthy and have a balanced diet.

If you are constantly feeling like you are stuck in a place and unable to make yourself work, headaches, muscle pain, fatigue, sadness etc then there is a good chance you are having a burnout and may need to consult a professional. If you have such symptoms please go to a doctor as soon as possible.

How to survive A/Ls in 3 months...

Today is the first of May and there are exactly three months until GCE A/L exams begin. I intend to help people who has realized this and started panicking and feeling lost, but not only A/L students but also any student with any upcoming exam can use these tips to ace your exam. I will first explain why most of us usually wait until the day before deadline to do stuff. It's explained by Parkinson's law which states that " Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion". What it means is, if we are given a week to finish a task we will finish it within the week and if we are given an year to finish the same task we will spend the whole year doing it. Well that's how usually us, lazy humans work. Now that you know what happened there is no time to regret about how we procrastinated on unnecessary things etc. Now it's time to damage control. I will not gurantee you will get 3As by following these. (It's possible depending on

Good books for students studying for GCE A/L examination...

As we all know A/Ls is a very tough exam and you will not be able to finish it successfully by just studying. It needs practice, timing and all.So the best way to do it is do exercises and improve knowledge,i did A/Ls in physical science stream and in sinhala medium,so based on my experience i will recommend anyone to use following books. There may be books better than following list, but books below were used by me.
