How to stop feeling sleepy while studying?

Young Woman, Workspace, Working, Girl, Lady, Female

Well, studying isn't always fun right? (For some of you not fun at all.. I know) But there are times that no matter how we feel we just have to do it. So in this article I will first focus on tips to avoid feeling sleepy to just get this one project/ essay done and then I will move onto the topic of how to not be sleepy in the long run.

So you have an exam tomorrow or a deadline and you want to get it done without falling asleep? Here are my quick tips. (If you are looking for a sustainable method skip this and move on to the next part)

  • Caffeine- It's my go to to pull an all nighter
  • Dark chocolate- Not only it will keep you awake but it will keep you calm too
  • Movements- Move you legs and arms from time to time even while you are sitting
  • Be in a well lit room- Well our bodies are designed to respond to environmental stimulus. So dark equals it's time to sleep
  • Avoid the bedroom- In our brains bedroom is associated with sleeping. So no studies in bed or the bedroom
  • Take a shower- You will feel fresh and ready after a warm/ cold bath
Now lets talk about not being sleepy whenever you think of studying(aka lazy) or when you try to study. First of all we have to figure out the reason for feeling sleepy always. Is it that you are tired all the time? or you tend to procrastinate and as a result feeling sleepy?

I. Extreme Fatigue

If you are tired all the time it could be something physical. So my advice is to seek medical help and to eat healthy, take vitamins (especially you could be lacking vitamin D if you don't go outside enough) and be physically active.

II.Procrastination/Being lazy

Just like I always say we don't like to do difficult things, whenever we feel like something is gonna drain all our energy we tend to procrastinate. So we have to trick our brain into thinking that this is not a big deal like it seems and it's a doable teeny tiny task. There are a couple of ways to do that. First one is to think of the consequences of not studying... That will motivate you for the day. To keep motivated in the long run there are several rituals(not religious stuff) I used to follow and still do, which I will teach you in an upcoming post. The next method is to breakdown the task into smaller steps and taking a step by step approach. Also the study environment is quite important. For an example like I mentioned before our brain has assigned tasks to each and every one of rooms in our houses. Don't do something somewhere that's not designed to do that thing. For an example if you eat, sleep and study on bed that is not gonna help you at all. Bed is to sleep and sleep only. That is how our brain recognises it. Use separate rooms/ places for separate tasks.

So that's it for today guys! See you soon with another post. If you have any suggestions comment below or email me. Stay safe and happy studying!

How to survive A/Ls in 3 months...

Today is the first of May and there are exactly three months until GCE A/L exams begin. I intend to help people who has realized this and started panicking and feeling lost, but not only A/L students but also any student with any upcoming exam can use these tips to ace your exam. I will first explain why most of us usually wait until the day before deadline to do stuff. It's explained by Parkinson's law which states that " Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion". What it means is, if we are given a week to finish a task we will finish it within the week and if we are given an year to finish the same task we will spend the whole year doing it. Well that's how usually us, lazy humans work. Now that you know what happened there is no time to regret about how we procrastinated on unnecessary things etc. Now it's time to damage control. I will not gurantee you will get 3As by following these. (It's possible depending on

Good books for students studying for GCE A/L examination...

As we all know A/Ls is a very tough exam and you will not be able to finish it successfully by just studying. It needs practice, timing and all.So the best way to do it is do exercises and improve knowledge,i did A/Ls in physical science stream and in sinhala medium,so based on my experience i will recommend anyone to use following books. There may be books better than following list, but books below were used by me.
