How to get work done...

Desk, Laptop, Notebook, Pen, Workspace, Workplace

At least once in our lives we have been in a place where we can't make ourselves get the work done. There are tons of things to do, you want to do, but you can't just make yourself start doing them. If this is you right now, then this is for you.

So we start from baby steps. You obviously can't motivate yourself enough to go and write that 5000 word essay. First you clean the room or desk. Simply start by making your bed. Marie Kondo says " From the moment you start tidying, you will be compelled to reset your life. As a result, your life will start to change." which is true btw. Motivation and work isn't linear. It's a cycle. Sometimes motivation makes you work and sometimes just by working on random something gives you motivation to continue. What we are lacking now is the first type of motivation. So we are making baby steps to get ourselves do something and use that motivation to work our way through.

The next thing is to get out of your pyjamas. I know they are comfy but your brain identifies pyjamas to be associated with bed. So when you. change into something else you are more likely to work. Most importantly you need fresh air and exercise. So if the conditions permit (Covid 19 lockdowns etc) go out for a walk. Trust me fresh air can make a huge impact on ones mood. So does exercises. When you are physically active your brain is more on alert. Doing these little changes will make you feel like you actually did something.

Finally have this ideology of pain and pleasure. It is developed by Sigmund Freud and it simply says people make choices to avoid pain or make choices to gain pleasure. We are using that principle for our gain. Also a recent research suggested that when we think of our future self we are referring to them as another person. That's why we tend to procrastinate. Our brain perceives the person writing that essay on the deadline as another person. So next time when we feel like not doing that essay until last minute and watching Netflix imagine the scenario and possible pain you will have to face. You wait until last minute and then you don't have the notes, you text your friend but your friend is already asleep. So you fail the exam, that affects your gpa and you lose the class by one decimal point which causes you to get a rejection from your dream college and the list goes on. I guess that alone is enough to get yourself out there. Use your imagination!

How to survive A/Ls in 3 months...

Today is the first of May and there are exactly three months until GCE A/L exams begin. I intend to help people who has realized this and started panicking and feeling lost, but not only A/L students but also any student with any upcoming exam can use these tips to ace your exam. I will first explain why most of us usually wait until the day before deadline to do stuff. It's explained by Parkinson's law which states that " Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion". What it means is, if we are given a week to finish a task we will finish it within the week and if we are given an year to finish the same task we will spend the whole year doing it. Well that's how usually us, lazy humans work. Now that you know what happened there is no time to regret about how we procrastinated on unnecessary things etc. Now it's time to damage control. I will not gurantee you will get 3As by following these. (It's possible depending on
