The singing pond..

So after a long break I'm posting something new today.. it's something i wanted to tell you from the beginning of the new semester..but i'm lucky that i had to postpone it coz today i got tons of ideas to add to this post. I just finished watching a movie..that's what gave me something new to think about. So this movie was quite a famous one in sri lanka but i couldn't watch it. It's name is "ho gana pokuna" (the singing pond). So for the people who don't know the story i'll give a brief idea.

A new teacher comes to a school which is situated in an extremely rural area in sri lanka. There are only 18 children in this school (usually schools in sri lanka have thousands per school. For an example there were about 5000 students in my school)Since there village is in the up country they have never seen the sea. So this movie is all about their trip to see the sea. What i realized from this movie is that i'm such a lucky person.not only me.. but also you are also a lucky person because you have enough facilities to read this now. The area where the school is doesn't have electricity or any other basic facilities. Oh yeah. Now you may say it's just a movie..it's not real, but there ARE schools like that. No electricity, no internet, no grounds or sports complexes,no classrooms, sometimes not even food..So they have nothing at all.
In this movie the headmaster doesn't even need to see them learning..he says if all these students become engineers or doctors who is going to cultivate these farms? So that's how it happens.. Their fathers and  were farmers, their children and grandchildren will also be farmers. In our country free education is offered from nursery to university. Government believes that it will provide valuable citizens to serve the country. But what actually is happening?
Some students love learning but they don't have enough resources..some have the opportunity to study but they don't use it..Of all the students writing for A/L examination, only 10% will be able to have a university. So that 10% portion has the most talented, intelligent students in the country. ( some might say that an exam can't decide who is the best, but yet nobody have found a better way..)

So we.. the people who are in universities are the best final product of free education have a responsibility to fulfill everyone's wish..to make a better country using our knowledge and intelligence through our hard work and dedication.
But when looking at most people the situation is pathetic.. government spends millions of money just to teach us. For lecturers , for libraries, for every facility we use government spends a lot of money.. just think a bit if we had to spend for our education will you and me be able to pay it? For a university in our ranking you will at least need 20 lakhs per semester. Can you pay it? That's the value of what we are getting for free.. some people skip lectures and haven't even seen the lecturers face and bother other people when the exam is near. So the bright students also teach them from the beginning.
If you were to pay for university then also will you miss lectures? I know it will be a no. But did you know that your parents are paying for your education in an indirect way..yeah we all pay taxes right..so it's not fair in a way..because even people who have never stepped into a university pays for our education. That is why we should work harder to make a better country for their children.
And one more  for the people who miss lecs.. I will not teach you a single thing if you are a person who misses lecs purposely without a good reason. Since it's free you are doing it right? Then pay me for teaching you.. Then only you will understand the real value of what you are getting for free.(personally I think we should stop teaching for free  for these type of people coz it will promote skipping lecs..they know that when it's exam time somebody will teach them. Now someone might say.. oh whats the big deal? "igenaganna lamayekta udawwak karahama mokadda wenne?" but do they really want to learn? I'm not talking about people who love learning.. If they wanted to learn that much then why would they wait till the exam? They can do it now also right? )
If someone's asking for a doubtful place in a lesson that's a one thing..if you misses lecs and hangout with friends having fun why would i waste my time to teach a person like that? It clearly shows your intention. You just want to pass the exam..not to learn anything in the lesson..

I missed lectures like that in last semester but did any of you saw me bothering someone to teach me from the begining? I knew it was my fault and i had to have the punishment for it.. I spent time with books and internet and finally saved the exams.. but i won't let the same mistake happen ever.
So atleast now realize why you are in the university..you have achieved a golden opportunity which 90% students couldnt achieve..Buts still they are paying for you..You are here to study.. the friends you have now can't care you when you are a jobless person without a future.. they will not be with you forever..your future will depend only on you and your skills and what you are going to be from this moment.

Can you remember the day your A/L results were released on net? Can you remember the faces of your parents? How happy they were? How proud they are to say that their daughter/ son is a student at the University of Colombo? I was happy with what I got because UOC science faculty was my dream and finally I got it.Physical science was my first choice in the uni application. There might be people who were dissapointed with their results because they couldn't get enough marks to study engineering and medicine..but you happened to end up here right? There are thousands of students who couldn't even come to the science faculty..btw isn't it cool to become a scientist than a doctor who works almost 24 hours in a hospital? Scientists are the people who invent new things for others to use.. I will tell one more thing before I wrap up. Once Prof B.M.Rathnayaka Bandara  told me something which I believe I should share with all of you guys..He said "පුතා, කරන ඕනෙම දෙයක් හදවතින්ම කරන්න.. කැමැත්තෙන් කරොත් කිà·ƒිම දෙයක් අමාරු නෑ."So do your best..Make your parents and your school proud.. My next post will be about how to get good grades in uni..so stay in touch,.Good luck..!!!

How to get 90+ for GCE A/L Chemistry paper..

Well  for most of the people doing A/Ls in science stream, chemistry is a nightmare, especially for physical science students. So today I'm going to tell you how to write to a chemistry paper in a much different way than you always do. Well it worked for me,and you should test this way with a model paper or in a term test before you go to exam. This saves time and also you can easily score 90+.

How to survive A/Ls in 3 months...

Today is the first of May and there are exactly three months until GCE A/L exams begin. I intend to help people who has realized this and started panicking and feeling lost, but not only A/L students but also any student with any upcoming exam can use these tips to ace your exam. I will first explain why most of us usually wait until the day before deadline to do stuff. It's explained by Parkinson's law which states that " Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion". What it means is, if we are given a week to finish a task we will finish it within the week and if we are given an year to finish the same task we will spend the whole year doing it. Well that's how usually us, lazy humans work. Now that you know what happened there is no time to regret about how we procrastinated on unnecessary things etc. Now it's time to damage control. I will not gurantee you will get 3As by following these. (It's possible depending on

Good books for students studying for GCE A/L examination...

As we all know A/Ls is a very tough exam and you will not be able to finish it successfully by just studying. It needs practice, timing and all.So the best way to do it is do exercises and improve knowledge,i did A/Ls in physical science stream and in sinhala medium,so based on my experience i will recommend anyone to use following books. There may be books better than following list, but books below were used by me. Chemistry almost every book by hemachandra basnayaka Akabanika rasayanaya by Aruna Bandara (there are two books for inorganic chemistry, these books will help you in for the doubts you will have in doing mcqs) Akabanika rasayana pilibanda gunathmaka ha pramanathmaka wishleshanaya by Ranga gunarathna(this also will help you in mcqs) Organic chemistry by jayathilaka(this book is very good and it will help you to understand concepts in organic chemistry better) Physics Prof D.D.N balo dayas' books yanthra vidyawa by lakshaman dissanayaka(questionsin this book  are
