So this is the season of university freshman. Most are worrying about the their English knowledge coz each and every lecture will be in English.First of all I have to say that I'm not from an English speaking country..So I'm going to give some tips based on my experiences.I started learning English a long time ago,but started learning it properly since 2006.
Actually my English is a gift from my school. On the first day I went to school I felt like I was in USA or UK.English,English English everywhere. I thought "Oh my god what have I done,I shouldn't have come to this school". We were forced to read English books at library.Only English books on English library period. Books were my favourite. So it was like a waste not to read a book even though it's an English one.So I started reading it slowly. It took about a day to finish it.The first English book I read was " A computer for Charlie". Slowly my vocabulary started expanding and I was leaning new words daily. Then I started this small game. There were many English TV series and movies telecasting with subtitles.Usually subtitles appear before they really speak. So I read subtitles and translated before the actor spoke and checked if I'm wrong. After few years I started watching movies without subtitles. That is how I learnt to speak English. After that I added people from English speaking countries and started chatting with them in English.
You won't be able to do what I did for 10 years in 10 days, but at least you can try. There is only one way to learn English..You'll never be able to learn English by sticking to grammar books..A language can be learnt only by using it..So don't be shy to speak in English with someone.Read English novels, watch English movies, try to chat with people with a good English knowledge and talk and talk and talk.. You'll be amazed to see how your language is improving..So Good Luck everybody..!!!
As a close friend and a colleague I'd say I'm familiar with the problem myself, as well. It took me about 4 years to figure out some stuff I learned in 6th grade. But anyway, I figured myself out. Don't remember how exactly, though. Anyway I'd like to congratulate you with your awesome blog. Keep the good work up, dude.
