Kinabalu-the living museum

After the age of dinosaurs, the Borneo island was covered with water. All of the Malay archipelago was totally submerged 30 million years ago. Then the island began to push its way above water 15 millions of years ago.Sedimentary deposits slowly rose to form mountains, which were penetrated between one and two millions of years ago by the granite intrusion that forms mountain Kinabalu, the highest peak in crocker range. It's the highest mountain in both Malay archipelago and Malaysia and it's summit is 4096m above sea level.

Kinabalu mountain and its surroundings are famous around the world for its botanical and biological species, biodiversity with Himalayan,Australasian and Indomalayan origin. There are between 5000 to 6000 species of plants,326 species of birds, more than 100 mammal species and about 1000 species of butterflies.

At around 6000 feet mosses grow in profusion and in also you will be able to see ferns, rhododendrons and bamboo trees also. Many of the worlds richest variety of orchids are found on the high rockier slopes.Above 10000 feet only a limited number of plants can be seen because of the climate, patches of grass alpine low's buttercup etc.

Most of the animals live in lowlands, and some of the mammals you will see at Kinabalu are orang-utan,deer,malayan weasel, leopard cats, and there are some endemic animals like black shrew,Bornean ferret badger.

Kinabalu is famous not only among scientists, but also among hikers. It has become a very famous place for hiking in the world, and tourists who are visiting Malaysia do not forget to hike Kinabalu. There are 2 ways to start climbing Kinabalu, timpohon gate and mesilau nature resort. Brisitsh colonial admin Hugh Low made the 1st recorded ascent of mount Kinabalu in 1851 and the peak is the focus of much folklore and superstition.

Legend associated with Kinabalu

There are two stories about the name of Kinabalu. One is it's extracted from the short form for the Kedazan Dusun word Aki Nabalu, meaning "the revered place of the dead". The second one is a tragedy "Cina balu" which means "a chinese widow".

A Chinese prince was cast away when his ship sank and native people rescued him,and when he recovered he was slowly accepted as one of them.He fell in love with a local woman. When years pass by he started feeling homesick and decided to go to China. But he promised his wife and children that he will definitely come back after he visit his parents in China. When he returned to China he had a grand welcome, but his parents disagreed about taking his Bornean wife and children to china and forced to marry a princess and he obeyed to his parents.Back in Borneo his wife decided that she will wait for her husbands ship.Since her village was far away from coast she couldn't go to shore and wait for him daily. So she decided to climb the nearest mountain and keep looking at the sea.Everyday she climbed the mountain before sunrise and returned to her children at night.Eventually because of this hard work she fell ill and died on the cold mountain top.Having observed her for years the spirit of the mountain felt touched he turned her into a stone. Her face was made to face south china see,so that she can wait forever till her husband comes back. The people in her village got to know this and named this mountain "Cina balu"

If you are a tourist seeking for knowledge and adventure here is your chance to enter a living museum, and have a good hiking experience,Mt.Kinabalu..

How to survive A/Ls in 3 months...

Today is the first of May and there are exactly three months until GCE A/L exams begin. I intend to help people who has realized this and started panicking and feeling lost, but not only A/L students but also any student with any upcoming exam can use these tips to ace your exam. I will first explain why most of us usually wait until the day before deadline to do stuff. It's explained by Parkinson's law which states that " Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion". What it means is, if we are given a week to finish a task we will finish it within the week and if we are given an year to finish the same task we will spend the whole year doing it. Well that's how usually us, lazy humans work. Now that you know what happened there is no time to regret about how we procrastinated on unnecessary things etc. Now it's time to damage control. I will not gurantee you will get 3As by following these. (It's possible depending on
