3500 tons of garbage,Korea's most successful tourist destination?

This is the third post of the Nami island series.I'm really sorry for making you wait.I was really busy because of university admissions. :) I mentioned before that Nami island is all about recycling. Now I will tell you how it happened.
"From weeds to flowers, from noise to rhythm,
from wild flowers to paper, from scenery to elegance"
Nami island is not a real island at all. After the completion of Cheongpyeong Dam in 1944 it became an island. In 1965,late chairman Mr.Minn Byeong Do bought this island and he planted Korean pines, cherry trees, white birch and metasequoias on this island. It was used as an amusement park before 2001 and people had came and gone leaving tons of garbage;empty soju bottles, blocks of wood, parts of old buildings, discarded ping pong tables, shards of glass were everywhere.

Employees decided to clean this mess in 2001.According to the calculations the total of the garbage in Nami island was more than 3500 tons. Can you believe it?It's a lot ha?But truly Nami island was a huge dump of garbage back then. Then they had another big problem. What are we going to do with this trash? There was only one solution,Recycling.

They melt and flatten soju bottles and used them as tiles, used rocks to build walls, discarded plywood to make pianos, dried reeds to make kimchi huts.To make walls in Dew garden they used more than 3000 soju bottles.
can you see soju bottles?

Can you see the fallen leaves in following picture?

Local government  spend 40000$  annually to dispose fallen ginkgo leaves. But after 2006 they send fallen ginkgo leaves to Nami island, and they use it to cover this 100 metre path with 100 tons of ginkgo leaves. It creates a perfect autumn ambience, isn't it?

Almost everything on Nami are recycled. You must go there and see it from your own eyes to believe what real recycling is.Currently 70% of the trash on Nami is recycled.Even the recycling percentage in Singapore is 58%

.Nami island is a good example for all the other countries in the world.Garbage has become a major issue in many countries including my own country. So now is the time to learn a lesson. You saw how South Koreans have transformed a huge garbage dump successfully.Start recycling garbage in your home today, and teach your neighbours and friends how to.By that way a whole country will learn it and the world will be a better place for your children and grand children.

How to survive A/Ls in 3 months...

Today is the first of May and there are exactly three months until GCE A/L exams begin. I intend to help people who has realized this and started panicking and feeling lost, but not only A/L students but also any student with any upcoming exam can use these tips to ace your exam. I will first explain why most of us usually wait until the day before deadline to do stuff. It's explained by Parkinson's law which states that " Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion". What it means is, if we are given a week to finish a task we will finish it within the week and if we are given an year to finish the same task we will spend the whole year doing it. Well that's how usually us, lazy humans work. Now that you know what happened there is no time to regret about how we procrastinated on unnecessary things etc. Now it's time to damage control. I will not gurantee you will get 3As by following these. (It's possible depending on

Good books for students studying for GCE A/L examination...

As we all know A/Ls is a very tough exam and you will not be able to finish it successfully by just studying. It needs practice, timing and all.So the best way to do it is do exercises and improve knowledge,i did A/Ls in physical science stream and in sinhala medium,so based on my experience i will recommend anyone to use following books. There may be books better than following list, but books below were used by me.
