In the act 2 scene 2 of Hamlet, the world famous play from the greatest English writer William Shakespeare has a dialogue like this.
Polonius : Do you know me my lord?
Hamlet : Excellent well. You are a fishmonger.
Before meeting Hamlet, Polonius met king Claudius and Queen Gertrude to talk about about Hamlet and he was planning on spying on Hamlet using Ophelia, his daughter. Of course Polonius was not a fishmonger, but why did Hamlet used this word? It has two more hidden meanings. In the Elizabethan era fishmonger had the connotation of a one who used women for profit. And fishmongers were from the lower class, they were loud and talkative. It's meaning is that he trades in cheap ways using frivolous words. So who are Facebook fishmongers?
The people who use other people to earn money. In short those bastards who run FB pages with another person's tears. ( Now I'm not talking about all the pages and admins here, but most of them are fishmongers) I've been using Facebook since 2011 and within a time period of 6 years the quality of facebook has been drastically decreased. It's not a matter of the quality of Facebook. It's about who uses it. Everybody has smartphones with internet connections, but that doesn't give you the right to violate another person's privacy. The reason I'm writing this blog post is I'm exhausted seeing those childish things they do to get page views. Guys write quality content.People will reach you eventually. Don't sell another persons tears to get what you want. Today social media has become a reason for suicides. So many deaths were reported within these years. You can have a camera, but you can't capture, and upload whatever you want to. Let me give you some examples.
Recently I saw that some photos of a girl and a train going viral on Facebook. I didn't say "the girl who committed suicide" coz I don't know whether it's an accident or a suicide. If you are reporting a news, you should be taking the responsibility for the consequences comes with it. That's why you shouldn't report news without verifying it. I don't know how she died and I'm responsible for every single word in this blog. So I just can't say oh yeah that girl..she committed suicide coz of a guy. If my imagination is wrong, then I'm insulting the dead person. It's pathetic to see how they were marketing her dead body for bunches of page views. Dying or not is her decision, and it's her life. We can't comment on it like she's stupid even though she had a degree with a 1st class etc. In the first place, is it even a suicide? If you imagine it like that, then let me give you another choice.
Maybe she did have problems and she wanted somewhere to think about it alone. So she went to that bridge and she didn't hear the train coming. Like that there are hundreds and millions of probabilities. Whatever the case, she died and only she knows what happened, and it is none of our business right? The damage was done already..why waste time commenting and sharing her dead body? What? You think it will prevent another one from committing suicide? Give your lame excuses to someone else. I am a counselor for 2 years now and I have seen so many people with suicidal tendency. When you are so sad and when your heart is broken to pieces you won't care. With the urge to die you will be blind and deaf. So trust me on this, by sharing you are not saving the world instead you are also becoming a fishmonger.
This was not the only case that happened. Within last 6 months I saw 100s of other things like that. There's a page that takes pictures of all the women they see and upload the pictures. There was a photograph of a mother and a teenage daughter. They were going somewhere at the time the photo was taken. The people who commented on it were disgusting. They had commented on each and every "organ"of that mom and daughter. Maybe those people don't even know that a bunch of douchebags are using them to fulfill their needs. I don't know what's wrong with these people, but if this is how they are going to use social media I wish that government will ban using it or introduce a protocol to control the content on social media. Because today it's her, tomorrow it will be you or me.
