In the famous study culture students are studying for 9-11 hours a day without sleep and most of us are proud to say that we sacrificed our sleep for studies. I have even seen many teachers advising students that studies are more important than sleep, but is it? In my life sleeping is the number one priority. I'm not even kidding. If I go to an exam without sleep my performance will be worse than a no study proper sleep situation. Sleep actually has a huge impact on how we perform and our levels of concentration. Lets dig in to find out how that works.
First of all sleep deprivation makes you hard to focus on anything, and secondly sleep helps to retain the stuff you studied. So my advice is to first have a proper sleep cycle. Our body produces melatonin when we are asleep. It is called the hormone of darkness because it is produced as a response to darkness. Melatonin is very important in maintaining your metabolism and sleep cycles. It is only synthesised when we are asleep and it resets our body. That is why we are advised not to use screens before sleep. You have to stop using screens at least two hours before you sleep and always sleep early and try to have a minimum of 8 hours sleep.
Sleep deprivation will make you to wake up exhausted, burn outs, lack of concentration and not able to memorize anything you studied. As I always say, maintaining your good health alongside studies is very important because who wants to get sick during the exams, right?
